Arts and Literature
The « Arts and Literature » universe consists of collections from the National and University Library (Bnu) and from the University of Strasbourg.
Mixing printed works, manuscripts and images, it offers a journey across the centuries and the continents. It contains literature in all its forms: novels, short stories, poetry, theatre and children literature. You will find in this universe the first books printed in Alsace during 16th century, but also numerous travel stories since 18th century describing the Alsace location at the heart of Europe.
Musical collections are promoted, as well as scientific collections and original manuscripts by Alsatian composers such as Marie Jaëll.
Art collections are dedicated to an erudite approach, in particular the calligraphy history funds, the library of the Institute for Art History collections, established at the end of 19th century, or otherwise the collection of old catalogues of the Strasbourg museums. It gives also access to vernacular culture in Alsace thanks to colourful and picturesque images and the engravings of Gustave Doré.
